C4RC Study Area

The C4RC area is 3000 hectares of seasonally inundated, semi-deciduous forest adjacent to the River Gambia. The forests surrounding Sambel Kunda hold the largest remaining population of Endangered Temminck’s red colobus monkeys (Piliocolobus badius temminckii) (TRC) in West Africa as well as green monkeys (Chlorocebus sabaeus), patas monkeys (Erythrocebus patas), Guinea baboons (Papio papio) and Senegal bush-babies (Galago senegalensis).
